ریشههای مزدیسنا به هزاره دوم پیش از میلاد بازمیگردد. این دین به همراه ادیان مرتبط با آن یا شاخههای دیگرش، نظیر [[مهرپرستی]] و [[آیین زروانی]]، برای بیش از هزار سال، از حدود ۶۰۰ پیش از میلاد تا ۶۵۰ پس از میلاد، دین رسمی شاهنشاهیهای باستانی ایرانی بودهاست؛<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www.iranicaonline.org/articles/zoroastrianism-i-historical-review|title=ZOROASTRIANISM i.
