This template provides a citation for use with the population estimates held in the following templates:

• {{English district rank}}
• {{English district density}}

• {{English admin counties}}
• {{Welsh council population}}
• {{Scottish council populations}}
• {{NI district population}}.

The year to which they relate (currently mid-2019 est.) is held as {{United Kingdom statistics year}}. An optional parameter area produces instead a citation for the source of district area measurements, held in the following templates (and as parameters in the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish templates mentioned above):

• {{English district area rank}}

Where the population citation varies per country add an optional parameter of the country, England, NI, Scotland or Wales.

Usage - Population

Place the template where you would normally include a citation template. You need to include the <ref> ...</ref> markup (this allows you to name the reference). Example:

Havering has a population of {{English district population|GSS=E09000016}} ({{United Kingdom statistics year}}).<ref>{{United Kingdom district population citation|England}}</ref>

which will produce

Havering has a population of 259,552 (mid-2019 est.).

with a reference for England
