الگار که متولد [[انگلیس]] بوده بعدها به دین اسلام و سپس به مذهب [[تشیع]] گرویده‌است وی همچنین آثاری از متفکران سیاسی معاصر شیعه را به انگلیسی ترجمه کرد از جمله [[کتاب ولایت فقیه]] اثر [[سید روح الله خمینی]] و آثاری از [[علی شریعتی]]، [[مرتضی مطهری]]، [[سید محمود طالقانی]]
