Overall safety standards in the third generation Saga aren't up to par with the Persona or Iriz. This is to be expected, because the new Saga is still based on an 11-year old platform. Plus, the Saga is Proton's entry level product, it's the cheapest sedan on sale in Malaysia. The truth is, the main buying demographic for the Saga (and its rival, the Perodua Bezza) simply do not have safety as a top priority. Many are first time car owners, some are upgrading from a motorcycle or old beater. To them, any new car will be much safer than what they're accustomed to... but it will also have to be cheap enough for them to be able to afford it.
