بنابراین، آثاری که شهروندان این کشورها برای نخستین بار در کشور خودشان منتشر کرده‌اند، در خارج از مرزهای آن کشور مشمول حمایت قانون حق نشر (کپی‌رایت) نخواهد شد. این دست آثار در اغلب کشورهای دیگر جهان احتمالاً در مالکیت عمومی قرار دارند.

با وجود این
  • آثاری که شهروندان یا مقیمان دائم سایر کشورهایی که عضو کنوانسیون برن یا معاهدات بین‌المللی دیگر حق نشر هستند برای نخستین بار در این کشورهای نامبرده منتشر کرده‌اند، مشمول حمایت قانون در کشور خود (کشور بومی) و نیز در سطح جهان خواهند بود. این دست آثار حتی شاید مشمول حمایت قانون محلی کشورهای نامبرده نیز بشوند.
  • آثاری که برای نخستین بار در یکی از این کشورهای نامبرده منتشر شده‌اند ولی ظرف ۳۰ روز در کشور دیگری (جز کشورهای نامبرده) منتشر شده‌اند، نیز معمولاً مشمول حمایت قانون در آن کشور دیگر (و سطح بین‌الملل) می‌شوند. اگر این دست آثار تحت حمایت قانون سایر کشورها قرار گیرند، ممکن است مدت حمایت از این آثار در سایر کشورها از مدت حمایت در کشورهای نامبرده بیشتر باشد.
  • آثار منتشرنشده از کشورهای نامبرده احتمالاً مشمول حمایت کامل هستند.
