در این نبرد آریوبرزن و افرادش به روایتی 1000۳۰۰ نفرتا بوده۷۰۰ و به روایتی دیگر 5000 نفرهنفر بوده است. آنها فقط 40۴۰ اسب داشتند. در ابتدا ارتش اسکندر به دروازه ها می رسد.رسد؛ در این هنگام آریوبرزن و ارتشش از بالای دروازه سنگ های بزرگی به سمت آنان پرت کردند و بیشتر آنان کشته شده و بقیه فرار کردند. سرانجام چوپانی خائن، برایدر ازای تعدادی سکه طلا راهی را به اسکندر نمایش داد که به وسیله آن اسکندر توانست آریوبرزن و افرادش را محاصره کند. پس از قتل آریوبرزن، اسکندر او را به خاک سپرد و روی قبرش نوشت '''به یاد [[لیونیداس]]'''
