فریزی‌ها گروهی از مردم ژرمن هستند که در نواحی ساحلی کشورهای آلمان ، دانمارک و هلند زندگی می‌کنند.آنها در هلند در استان‌ها فریسلاند و گرونینگن در آلمان در فریسیای غربی و فریسیای شمالی زندگی می‌کنند.As both the Anglo-Saxons of England and the early Frisians were formed from largely identical tribal confederacies, their respective languages were very similar. Old Frisian is the most closely related language to Old English[6] and the modern Frisian dialects are in turn the closest related languages to contemporary English.منطقه زندگی آنها به فریزیا معروف است.این مردم به داشتن موهای بور معروف هستند.^[۱]

زبان فریزی کهن به زبان انگلیسی کهن بسیار نزدیک بوده است و همین جور زبان فریزی نوین نیز به زبان انگلیسی نوین بسیار نزدیک است.^[۲]
